Extending the Lifespan
of Your Merino Wool

With a little care, your Merino Protect garment will stay in great condition for years.

How to Clean?

Hand wash Merino wool whenever possible to extend its lifespan.

HAND WASHING STEPS:

1. Ensure the sink is clean, fill with low-temperature water, add wool detergent (avoid softeners, bleach, or bio detergents), and dissolve.

2. Submerge the garment, gently stir, and soak for 10 minutes.

3. Rinse gently with cool water until it runs clear, then press out excess water without wringing or twisting to prevent misshaping.

*For small stains, try spot cleaning with a damp cloth and mild detergent instead of washing the entire garment. Merino wool naturally resists odors, so washing less frequently is not only better for the garment, but also for the environment.

MACHINE WASHING STEPS:

1. Place the garment inside a laundry bag to protect it during the wash.

2. Close all zippers and buttons to prevent snags or damage.

3. Wash the garment inside out with like colors to prevent color transfer.

4. Set the washing machine to a cold cycle to prevent shrinkage.

5. Select the delicate or wool cycle on your washing machine to prevent damage.

6. Use a wool-specific detergent and avoid bleach or fabric softeners.

How to dry?

DRYING TIPS:

1. Dry in a Cool, Ventilated Area: Always dry your garment in a cool, well-ventilated space, away from direct sunlight.

2. Speed Up Drying: To gently remove excess water, lay the garment flat between two towels, roll it up, and press lightly—never twist or wring.

3. Lay Flat to Dry: To maintain the shape and minimize wrinkles, lay the garment flat on a clean towel or drying rack. For socks, reshape them to avoid stretching.

4. Use the Washing Machine's Gentle Spin Cycle: If you're using a washing machine, place the garment in a laundry bag and use a low-speed spin cycle to remove excess water without causing distortion.

DRYING MISTAKES TO AVOID:

1. Avoid Wringing: Wringing your garment can damage wool fibers and distort the shape. Always press gently to remove excess water.

2. Avoid hanging your garment, as it may stretch under its own weight. Lay it flat on a towel or drying rack to maintain its shape.

3. Avoid Direct Sunlight and Heat: Direct exposure to sunlight or heat sources can cause shrinkage and damage the fibers.

4. No High-Heat Dryers: Never dry wool garments in a high-heat dryer. The heat can weaken and shrink the fibers.

5. Avoid Dry Cleaning: Most wool clothes can be dry-cleaned, but keep in mind that dry cleaning reduces the lifespan of any garment.

How to Store?

STORAGE TIPS:

1. Store Clean and Dry: Always ensure your garments are clean and completely dry before storing them. Storing damp items can lead to mold or mildew growth.

2. Fold, Don't Hang: To prevent stretching, fold your Merino wool garments instead of hanging them. Use a drawer or shelf to store them neatly.

3. Use Garment Bags for Long-Term Storage: For long-term storage, use a breathable garment bag to protect against dust and pests. Avoid plastic bags, as they can trap moisture and cause mildew.

4. Keep in a Cool, Dry Place: Store your Merino wool items in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and heat sources. A wardrobe or closet with good air circulation is ideal.

5. Moth Protection: Merino wool is a natural fiber and can attract moths. Consider using natural moth repellents such as cedar balls or lavender sachets to protect your garments. Avoid synthetic mothballs, as they can damage wool fibers.
